After graduating from Slidell High School and completing a 4-year stint in the U.S. Navy, he attended Commonwealth College of Mortuary Science in Houston, TX and returned to Slidell, LA where he continued to work as an undertaker. In 1986, he and his wife, Adele, were given an opportunity to purchase a piece of land in Hickory, LA.
